New Year’s Resolutions for Smart Home Buyers

New Year’s Resolutions for Smart Home Buyers

If your vision for 2020 is to finally own your own home, trade up to a better one or radically improve your old one, here are some New Year’s Resolutions you may wish to consider. These resolutions will not only empower you in your search for your dream home, but are easier to keep than all those “go to the gym everyday” ones you make every year!

I RESOLVE TO…

not allow myself to feel pressured to buy any property to the point of ignoring due diligence. There will be other “perfect” houses. Never feel you can’t simply walk away from any house being offered.

I RESOLVE TO…

get a home inspection on any house I am seriously considering. The cost of the inspection may save thousands of dollars and years of misery.

I RESOLVE TO…

use only established professionals with proven track records for all house-related assistance including realtors, legal work, contractors, home inspectors and, of course, appraisers.

I RESOLVE TO…

talk to neighbours around potential purchases to make sure they are not going to be a future issue. Bad neighbours can make life miserable, no matter how lovely the home.

I RESOLVE TO…

Shop for homes within my financial comfort zone, and not allow myself to be herded into being “house poor”.

I RESOLVE TO…

remember no house purchase or project ever goes as smoothly as it does on HGTV. Don’t let emerging issues, which are guaranteed to pop up, make you stressful. Problems lose their power when we expect them to occur.

I RESOLVE TO…

Have fun with it! Be excited! Enjoy!
